September 2024: Longview is a Proud Community Partner

August 26, 2024

Longview has been a leader in providing senior living to adults in and around Ithaca, NY for 50 years. Upon moving to our current location on South Hill in 1998, independent living apartments were added to the housing program that we currently offer and later followed by enhanced assisted living, patio homes and home to the only social adult day care program in the county.

Starting in August 2024 our main building began to undergo updates to all of our independent living apartments and common areas including the dining room and auditorium. Additionally, we have also replaced all our main kitchen appliances with state-of-the-art products to be able to offer the best in culinary dining to our residents and guests in our updated dining room. We will also be adding stackable washer/dryers and dishwashers to our independent living apartments.

“As a resident over the last eight years, I’m looking forward to seeing the positive changes the renovation will bring to Longview and to the current residents as well as future residents. Bringing us into the 21st century in terms of the current needs of senior housing is very important. There’s been a need for improving and updating for many years and thankfully Longview is in a position where we can now do it.” -Allen Minsky

Founded in October 1972, where legacy meets innovation, Longview is a vital nonprofit organization serving older adults in the Ithaca community, enriching lives for over 50 years. Our commitment to engaging living by providing independent, assisted, enhanced assisted living, and adult day facilities uniquely positions us to offer an unparalleled solution to the evolving needs of our community. The unique value we bring to people is fostering belonging and connections while addressing practical and emotional needs through a comprehensive continuum of care by ensuring living well together. Longview’s one-of-a-kind opportunities are the collaboration with Ithaca College. This includes access to recreational facilities, taking classes, music, theater, the Gerontology Institute, and the experiential learning program with over 700 students and more than 65 faculty and staff participating in intergenerational education and social experiences. Longview is proud to host and collaborate with Tompkins Community Action’s Early Head Start program. Longview serves people from ages 3-100+ and is committed to the well-being of mind, body, and spirit, including the values of kindness, dependability, integrity, inclusion, and accountability.

Longview takes its community partnerships seriously but we also know how to have fun with it.  One of the many things that Longview participates in annually is the CNY Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s in September. This event is something near and dear to our hearts as Alzheimer’s is a disease that touches all of us here at Longview; whether it’s a resident, family member, staff member or even guests. The Walk gives us a chance to give back as a team. The Ithaca College/Longview Partnership team is made up of IC faculty and students, Longview residents, staff, and family members.

Over the past three walks our team has raised approximately $33,000 through bake sales and generous giving. And that’s not all. We also put on the annual Mini Walk to End Alzheimer’s right on our Longview campus. This event is held in the Spring and is a chance for our residents to walk on the Longview campus to show their support to the backdrop of live music, the Promise Garden and lots of love and laughter.

This year’s Walk is being held on Saturday, September 14th at 10am at Ithaca College. We’re so excited about this because not only is the Walk in our very own backyard we are also honoring the Ithaca College/Longview Partnership for its 25 year anniversary alongside Longview’s 50th anniversary.
