November 2024: Alzheimer’s Awareness
October 31, 2024
As we all know, Alzheimer’s creates a world of stress for those affected. One of the best ways to assist someone living with Alzheimer’s is to spread awareness and share information about the disease. Longview does its part by advocating for the Alzheimer’s Association and hosting various informational talks on campus, which further explain the depth of Alzheimer’s disease to those who may not already be familiar. Education is an invaluable tool for curious minds, care partners and those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Fundraising is a great way to get involved and learn more about the disease, along with its surrounding community. Longview hosts the mini-walk to End Alzheimer’s each Spring, where Longview residents/staff and Ithaca College students/faculty show their support by walking the walk on the Longview campus. Then, each year in September, the Alzheimer’s Association of Central NY hosts the Tompkins/Cortland Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Team Ithaca College/Longview Partnership participates each year in the Walk. This year it was held on the Ithaca College campus, which is just across the road from Longview.
Fundraising continues all year long. We held a bake sale in April and another one is scheduled for Friday, November 15th at Longview. We encourage participation by either selecting a home-made treat or donating. All funds go towards providing care, support, education, and funding research to help those affected by the disease and their families through various programs and services available at local chapters.
In whatever way you choose to support the cause, please start with spreading awareness. For more info on ways to get involved, click this link: https://www.alz.org/
